Picton Performances in the Park
We’ve come a long way, Picton.
In last week’s local newspapers, I read about a story that was exciting and uplifting. It was about the advancement of our arts culture in Prince Edward County. It was about a free summer concert series called Picton Performances in the Park. Local groups and two levels of government are sponsoring the series, which will run on Sunday afternoons in Benson Park (behind the old post office) through July and August.
What I find exceptional is that while many of the performers are award-winning, many of them are also local, and many performances are geared toward our teenagers, for whom life in the County can frankly be a bore. (Hopefully, this series and the grand opening of the County Skate Park in July will help change that!)
I’ve scanned one of the articles and linked to it here, and the Picton BIA Web site attempted to list the performers and dates, but for a quick reference, here’s the list, as published in the Picton Gazette:
- July 4 – Zero Gravity Circus, Emily Fennell and others
- July 11 – Frere Brothers, Suzanne Pasternak
- July 18 – Marysburgh Mummers
- July 25 – Jamie Stever Band
- August 1 – Ryan Malcolm feat. Kids Performing Arts Initiative Rock Camp
- August 8 – David Finkle’s Northern Voices
- August 15 – Canadian Jazz Quartet
- August 22 – Ron Westray and the Blair Yarranton Quartet

Yay! Happy to see one of my favourit parks in town is being used for such a fantastic line-up of events.
Great location: pretty, close to cafes, parking and spots for the little ones to hang out. Why wouldn’t you go?
oh ya – and – FREE
Glad to report that the first Performance In the Park was a huge success on a beautiful summer day. The County’s very own Emily Fennel was an enormous hit with the crowd!
