Mertens launches mayoral campaign

Submitted by Jennifer on May 20, 2010 – 10:32 amNo Comment

The following guest blog post first appeared on http://Mertens4Mayor.com on May 20, 2010. I recorded the video and took photos during the event, did some basic edits, put the photo down below and uploaded the video to Merten’s campaign YouTube channel.

launch_picIt was a sunny Monday morning when Peter Mertens declared for the mayoralty in Prince Edward County. Mertens made the announcement in Wellington, on the steps of the town hall in the ward he’s served as councillor for the past four years. Click here to read more about Peter’s announcement.

A crowd of about 20 supporters plus four members of the media were present for the speech and ensuing scrum. Mertens happily shook hands with his supporters, hugged others and was generally showered with praise. Coming soon: testimonials from Peter’s supporters.

It’s been a dynamic five years for Mertens. He was elected as Wellington ward councillor just a year after moving here from Newmarket with his wife, Kathleen. Click here to read Peter’s biography.

Since then, Mertens has been busy representing Wellington at the horseshoe at Shire Hall; and representing the County at large on committees like PELLASS (Prince Edward Lennox and Addington Social Services). Click here for more information about Peter’s past experience.

Mertens says it’s his corporate leadership and political experience – along with votes and help from his supporters – that will win him the job. Click here to find out how you can help.

Mertens spent his career as a leader in corporate Canada with such powerhouse companies as Maple Leaf Foods before gravitating to municipal economics and politics in his then-hometown. Click here to read more about Peter’s unique qualifications.

Mertens says it’s his experience – away and here – that helped him create his vision for the sustainable management of Prince Edward County. Click here to read about Peter’s vision for the County.
