From the Farm …and from the wineries!
It’s been my privilege the past couple of days to attend some truly inspiring events in my hometown of Prince Edward County. They don’t call it the gastronomic capital of Ontario for nuthin’.
I was asked to step in and shoot some footage of a recent media tour of County wineries geared at wine writers from Quebec. The resulting video clips show an enthusiastic pairing of wine makers and wine critics, in what are, to date, the only French video clips of their kind on YouTube. I didn’t get any of the wine, but meeting the people from Hillier Creek, The Old Third, Lacey Estates and Harwood Estate was nearly as good. Almost.
Next I was treated to a luncheon provided at the launch of From the Farm Cooking School on Burr Rd., south of Ameliasburgh. The lovingly restored 1830s farmhouse is now the home of the new enterprise by former Spice Sister, Cynthia Peters. This venue and the surrounding farmers’ fields will set the stage for culinary tourists in the months and years to come. The creative direction by Scout Design is delicious, too! I turned the experience into a short story for the radio.
It’s events like these that would have – could have – never happened in the Prince Edward County of the 1990s; and that keep me here, wanting more.
