Saraswati Wellness Spa: a first for Prince Edward County and for Canada

Submitted by Jennifer on April 12, 2010 – 3:17 pmNo Comment

The following blog post first appeared on April 12, 2010, at http://princeedwardcounty.biz, the blog for the economic development office of Prince Edward County. You can see more great photos on the EDO’s Flickr site.

Saraswati Wellness Spa is owned and run by Dr. Maureen-Horne Paul, a Belleville-born and Toronto-trained naturopathic doctor. On April 1, she closed down her practice in the city of Kingston and moved it to the nearby island of Prince Edward County. She’s our community’s only naturopath and runs what she believes is Canada’s only naturopathic wellness centre specializing in the treatment of cancer and chronic disease.

Saraswati Wellness Spa first opened its doors in Prince Edward County as a part-time operation in July 2009; but on April 1, 2010, celebrated its opening as a full-time, 24/7 business. It’s another addition to Prince Edward County’s creative rural economy and one of its first in the health and wellness sector.

The spa is situated amongst old stands of trees in the rolling fields north of Picton. The aromas and textures that fill the house are welcoming upon arrival and leave you feeling refreshed upon departure, even if you haven’t had a treatment.

The place ought to feel special. It’s the culmination of 16 years’ work “in the naturopathic trenches”, as Maureen puts it. She says Saraswati is a dream come true.

Saraswati offers four main services: naturopathic medicine, wellness spa therapies, stay-and-heal wellness programmes and a bed and breakfast.

While the wellness centre specializes in cancer care, it is open to anyone. To book an appointment or for more information, call Saraswati at 613-476-5444 or visit them online at www.saraswatispa.ca.
