We’ve come a long way, Picton.

Search continues for (suspected) missing snowmobiler(s)

Submitted by Jennifer on February 14, 2010 – 6:05 pmNo Comment

That’s the weirdest thing about this story: we’re not even sure there’s a snowmobiler to be found. Prince Edward OPP, Belleville Police, local fire crews and even the search and rescue unit from CFB Trenton joined for about three hours last night in an effort to find a snowmobiler who’d gone through the ice on the Bay of Quinte. But since there’s been no call of a missing rider to any local police outlets, we’re not even sure anyone’s even missing.

I started following this story almost immediately after we saw the commotion at the Bay Bridge last night (SAT). It was around 8pm and we were bound for Belleville from Bloomfield. Two hours later, I called the Belleville Police and they told me it was a case of a suspected missing snowmobiler. We drove over the bridge again and saw all the vehicles had left.

The next morning during my news anchor shift, I saw the OPP search and rescue chopper from the newsroom window. When I drove home around 1:00pm, I saw the OPP search and rescue workers suited up and combing the ice for signs of the alleged snowmobiler. That’s when I took more of the footage you see in this video.

Please share this video as it could alert someone that their loved one has gone missing. We still don’t even know exactly who officials are looking for, if there’s anyone to be found at all.
