Big scary monster of a story
Port Hope Eldorado/Cameco site a burden on our pocketbooks and our health
I’ve been following this story since I first reported on it for Cobourg’s CHUC radio in 2007.
There is so much I could say about this… but for now, here are my sources from writing today’s lead story in my noon newscast.
- Report from the Port Hope group, Families Against Radiation Exposure
- Short article in the Toronto Star
- A reporter friend, Mark Guinta, who got me up to speed from his desk in the Cobourg newsroom
- Broadcast News (wire service)

For someone who claims to have followed this story for a number of years, you sure don’t have much idea about what’s going on…
The federal government accepted responsibility for cleaning up the waste in Port Hope as far back as 1988. Since then, it has given Atomic Energy of Canada Limited, a federal Crown Corporation, the responsibility for cleaning up the waste and an agreement was signed to this effect back in 2001.
