Celebrating our regional art, wine and food
When I attended my first Artevino it was 2005 and I’d just started in a new position in Belleville as a radio morning show host and reporter. The event was new, too, and its media awards event was a tiny affair.
I remember being blown away by the samplings of wine even then, and that was before many of our region’s grape vines had matured.
One of the vintners honoured that year was Dan Sullivan of Rosehall Run. He doesn’t remember meeting me then – and how I drove out to his then developing vineyard in the mud so I could order my own bottles of whatever I’d tasted! But it was my pleasure to sit down with Dan this week – five years later – and reflect on his newest collaboration: a duo of wines passionately created with his friend and neighbour, chef Jamie Kennedy. The resulting pinot noir and chardonnay will be released at this year’s Taste! A celebration of regional cuisine on September 26 (and check back here soon for the resulting podcast).
Congratulations, too, to the other big winner at Artevino: Caroline Granger’s team at the Grange, which took first place honours for their 2008 cabernet franc.
After seeing Caroline’s photo featured in a recent LCBO catalogue (which is an insert in today’s Globe and Mail) with others who’ve made Prince Edward County their chosen home (Michael Potters of Harvest Restaurant, Andrew Mackenzie of Buddha Dog and cheesemaker John McKinnon of Petra Cooper’s Fifth Town Artistan Cheese Company) I couldn’t be prouder to say I’m a County girl.

Here’s a pic of the dynamic duo – Dan and Caroline – a week or so ago along with a brief article. You can view it from this URL http://www.winecurrent.com/special-features/83-special-features/417–its-time-to-taste-prince-edward-county
Nice pic – Thanks, Vic!
Bloomfield is a lovely part of the world. Went on a few girls weekends at Isaiah Tubbs Resort and have friends who moved there. Keep up the interesting reporting.
Cheers
