Stirling fire info tough to pin down
It was by chance that I heard about the Stirling fire that destroyed a home overnight (SAT). Luckily, no one was injured.
Once I knew about it, I could make the necessary phone calls to appropriate authorities and get the details for my morning newscasts. Thing is, sometimes these authorities are tough to reach, especially on a Sunday morning when small-town emergency halls and offices are closed, and many of those who serve our communities are at church.
If you know about a story that’s happening in your neighbourhood, don’t hesitate to call the newsroom about it. Chances are good that you’re the first person to do so. At worst, we already know about it – but you still might be able to lend a hand and help us get the important information out.
Quinte Broadcasting runs Mix 97, Rock 107 and CJBQ from its head offices in Belleville. Call us in the newsroom anytime at 613-968-5803.
PS Social media can help in situations like this. Imagine the potential if neighbours or witnesses of the fire were bloggers or posting to the Web on Twitter!
