Stephen Harper gets to play with the big boys

Submitted by Jennifer on February 19, 2009 – 6:16 pmOne Comment

I daresay there’s a new bromance on Parliament Hill.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper today hosted Barack Obama in a much-anticipated first foreign visit for the new American president.

Finally, somebody in the White House is taking Canada seriously.

The new buddies clearly demonstrated today a mutual respect and amiability for too long lacking in Canadian-American relations. Their budding bromance was evidenced by their body language, their references to each other in their joint press conference and the fact that their private meeting lasted 33-minutes – three times longer than formally planned.

Obama says he loves this country and that he couldn’t ask for a better friend and ally than Canada.

Harper says Canada and the U.S. are closer and friendlier now than any other two countries on the face of the Earth.

And while I may not have voted for a Conservative Prime Minister, I can certainly say he done me proud in his dealings today.

The sigh of relief is practically deafening! Canadians (like the ones in this video, below) are celebrating today what must be universally considered the dawn of a new era.

FYI, At this point of his presidency, Obama has the lowest approval rating of any president in history. Not exactly the friendliest environment to take office.
