An Inspiring Regent Gala

Submitted by Jennifer on November 28, 2008 – 5:16 pmNo Comment

I know I’m not alone when I say it was an inspiring night at the Regent Theatre 90th anniversary gala on November 22nd.

The pre-show reception was good, the performance was good, the MC was good (who was that gal, anyway?) and the living relatives of the founding Cook family were happy they attended.

The play was funny, romantic and strikingly a propos. I just wish I had known it would be so good and I would have told more people about it.

The war-time musical romance Could You Wait? was written by Joe Matheson for his wife and co-star, Louise Pitre… as well as for his relatives, whose true story inspired the play. It was full of catchy tunes from the second world war, which lit up the audience; and the story struck a cord with me, since we just sent one of our relatives overseas to the Afghani fields of World War III.

At the end of the performance, I approached Joe Matheson to say how much I enjoyed the play and we agreed to keep in touch.

Come back here soon to hear my interview with Canadian actor and playwright, Joe Matheson – on the theme of making Canadian stories interesting!
